The Math of Rationalization

I caught myself doing this terrible math again yesterday. It goes like this:

I saw some shoes I wanted for Mae. They are way more than I would spend on baby shoes.
I walked away from the computer.
I came back later. Same price, same cuteness.
I tilted my head. Yes, they still looked cute from that direction. Still expensive though.
But, I thought, obviously if they are selling them, then other people are paying this much for them.
So I should too.

I did catch myself in time to laugh at my reasoning.
