Finding Favorite Places

I am still looking for a place like the Wissahickon in Philly. This place isn't quite it, but it's the closest we have found.

Sunshine

Sunshine after the storms.

Breakfast

I eat pizza for breakfast. And I like to read while I eat, partly so that no one will talk to me. Now I have the best kind of company.

This week I am wondering, does doing schoolwork on time at 8am matter enough to struggle with my kids? Or is ok to let them do math at 8pm, when they are happy about it?

Great Room

We moved yesterday. Before we started packing, I took pictures of the apartment. It was difficult to say goodbye to that place. No matter where I've moved, I've always gone back there for the summer. This year I won't be back.

Discovery Baskets, 10 months

Here are this week's discovery baskets for Simon. He really liked the animals last week, so I kept them this week. In the other basket is a garlic rocker (no sharp edges), a soy sauce dish from a sushi set, and a scoop with a short handle. Not pictured is a small coffee scoop, which is his favorite, and which he has been carrying around the house.

I thought he would like the noise of hitting the metal objects together, but I was wrong. It makes him jump or cringe. He is a gentle baby.

Hold the Quiet

Walking at dusk. Then, through the noise of dinner and bedtime, I try to hold the quiet of the woods in my heart.

Real Life Yoga

This is real-life yoga, grabbing the first quiet moment of the day. The laundry still needs folding, kindergarden math is still undone, and I should have started dinner twenty minutes ago.

One downward dog and thirty seconds of plank is all baby gives me, but I'll take it. And on with the day.
